Nestled between southeastern Pennsylvania and northern Delaware is the magnificent Brandywine Valley, a host of natural and historical treasures to entertain and educate student groups.

Step back in time and watch the earliest days of our nation play out via reenactments at the historical Brandywine Battlefield and Paoli Battlefield, or experience day-to-day Colonial life hands-on through candlemaking, baking, and other tasks available at the John Chad House and the Chadds Ford Historical Society. Tours are also available at the Kennett Square Underground Railroad Center, showcasing one of the largest concentrations of “stations” in the region.

Switch things over the science with a visit to the stunning Longwood Gardens, where more than 1000 acres of meadows, gardens, and displays combine with onsite educators and botonists to explain conservation, biodiversity, and the importance of plants in our eco-system. For more on green living, students can also visit the Brandywine Conservancy where experts work to protect and conserve land, water, and natural, historic, and scenic resources.

Students tours also can get a taste of manufacturing and business with a trip to the Herr’s Snack Factory, a behind-the-scenes tour that allows guests to see the actual production plant of the popular snack brand.
