We chatted with Anna Adkins, sales manager at the Huntington Area CVB, to learn more about the area and what it offers for tour groups.

Q. What’s new for groups this year in Huntington? Are there any new developments on the horizon groups should know about?
A. Outdoor adventure is taking off! Heritage Farm, West Virginia’s only Smithsonian Affiliate, has added a four-story aerial adventure course, children’s ropes course, chauffeured ATV rides, zip lining and more to its award-winning museums and village that groups already love.

Additionally, the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System has expanded into the Cabwaylingo State Forest with more than 100 miles of new trails to explore for ATV, UTV, ORV and dirt bike enthusiasts.
Q. What surprises groups the most when visiting Huntington?
A. Many of our visitors are here for the first time. They are frequently surprised at the caliber of our attractions, the diverse local dining options and the kindness of our locals.
Q. Does there tend to be favorite/most-popular attractions or experiences for groups visiting Huntington?
A. It may not be the reason for the trip, but Hillbilly Hot Dogs is always a highlight for visiting groups. It has been featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives with Guy Fieri, the Travel Channel’s Food Paradise and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, just to name a few. Your group can eat their lunch on a decommissioned school bus or enjoy the sunshine out by the Weenie Weddin’ Chapel.

Q. What’s one stop in Huntington that groups shouldn’t miss?
A. Located just outside Huntington, Blenko Glass Company is a must-see. Family-owned and -operated since its opening in 1893, exquisite color, skilled craftsmanship and imaginative designs have made Blenko famous in the time-honored tradition of hand-blown glass. Groups can tour the factory floor before visiting the gift shop to take a piece of West Virginia home.
Q. What services does Huntington Area Convention & Visitors Bureau offer for tour planners?
A. We offer several services for tour groups:
- We offer tour groups a welcome reception, including refreshments and cookies with the option of historical actors and live, Appalachian music to greet them at the Visitors Center.
- We coordinate with local hotels to make sure the right accommodations are made for your group.
- We provide attendees with our welcome packets.
- FAM Tours are available for qualified operators.
- We customize itineraries to meet the needs of your group and offer complimentary step-on tour guides.
Q. What do you hope groups take away from a visit to Huntington?
A. We hope groups leave our area with a positive impression of Appalachia and West Virginia. We hope to pleasantly surprise those who aren’t familiar with us and remind others why they love it here.
