COLORADO SPRINGS, Co., — The Summit Complex atop Pikes Peak — the highest summit of the southern Front Range of the Rocky Mountains — is set to open in 2021.

The construction of the new Summit Complex is the highest ongoing construction site in North America and will include a visitor center featuring new indoor and outdoor permanent exhibits about the mountain’s history, climate and geography, recreational opportunities, conservation initiatives and much more.

The indoor gallery uses interactive digital features that bring the mountain to life, while outdoor interpretive rails around the summit will describe the environment, pinpoint key landscape features and showcase related side stories.

The new Summit Complex will replace the existing facilities which are in deteriorating conditions caused by the harsh climate atop the peak.

2021 will also bring the reopening of The Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway — a passage offering visitors a stunning and educational 9-mile ride to the top of the mountain’s summit. The project includes a new track, trains, depot and cog.

About Pikes Peak

Named for American explorer Zebulon Pike, Pikes Peak is known as America’s Mountain and was the inspiration for Katharine Lee Bates’ “America the Beautiful.” It is one of the most visited mountains in the world, with the help of The Cog which has been running since 1891.
