The Virginia Revolution 250 Commission (VA250) has selected William Schermerhorn to serve as event designer. As a two-time Emmy Award-winning songwriter and creative director, Schermerhorn brings with him extensive experience in large-scale event production. Most recently, he worked as creative director for signature events with The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
“Bill’s extraordinary ability to blend storytelling with spectacular event design makes him the perfect fit for our team,” says VA250 Executive Director Cheryl Wilson in a prepared statement. “His expertise will be instrumental in Virginia’s commemoration of America’s 250th birthday. We are fortunate to add his talents.”
Schermerhorn, who was fittingly born on the Fourth of July, previously directed events such as Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular. He also orchestrated a fireworks display from Ellis Island to celebrate the Statue of Liberty’s 125th anniversary.
“I’m honored to contribute my creative vision to Virginia’s Semiquincentennial planning efforts,” says Schermerhorn. “This opportunity to help design events that commemorate Virginia’s pivotal role in America’s 250-year history is, for me, a call to share the Commonwealth’s revolutionary and remarkable achievements.” va250.org
