Discover a legendary aircraft carrier, the first space shuttle, the world’s fastest jets and a guided-missile submarine. At the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City, you’ll go on an interactive journey through history to learn about American innovation and bravery. The Museum’s expert guides lead fascinating explorations of the Museum and provide greater insight into the artifacts on display.
1. Growler Exhibition
Nuclear-missile submarines prowl the world’s oceans, their crews standing ready for a launch order that they hope will never come. Today’s formidable vessels have their roots in the tensest years of the Cold War. Explore the history and design of USS Growler, one of America’s first nuclear-missile submarines. Historical artifacts, oral histories and immersive experiences offer a behind-the-scenes look at life on board. Then experience the actual submarine Growler!
2. Space Shuttle Pavilion
Showcasing Enterprise, the Space Shuttle Pavilion features original artifacts, photographs, audio and films. Visitors can walk directly underneath the orbiter or visit an elevated platform for a dramatic view. Free Tour Guide Talks and educational presentations are also available. Included with Museum admission.
3. Summer Movie Series
Watch a movie on the ship’s flight deck, under the stars! Enjoy views of the Hudson River and city skyline while you watch some old and new favorites on the big screen. Admission tickets (free of charge) will be distributed first-come, first-served before the show. The flight deck opens at 7 p.m., and the movie begins at sunset, weather permitting. Space is limited. Alcohol is not permitted, doors close at 8:30 p.m.
4. Access & Group Meals
Enjoy a variety of on-site and online resources to enhance your guests’ experience, from an accessible and dedicated motor coach drop-off and parking location for groups, special group entry, assistive listening devices for use on tours and programs for guests with special needs, including entry before the Museum opens. We offer prearranged breakfasts and lunches at affordable prices. We will also reserve seating for groups of 15 or more on our mess deck, where the sailors themselves once dined (subject to availability).
