A great vacation doesn’t have to be an expensive vacation. Atlantic City has an abundance of free activities starting with our 4.5 miles of world-famous white sandy beaches. That’s right, there are no beach tags or access fees required for a day at the Atlantic City beach and all beaches are protected by lifeguards. Enjoy the sand between your toes and the sun on your face without emptying the piggy bank. Stroll the Atlantic City Boardwalk and enjoy the best place to people watch. Though if you are inclined to sit by the sea and soak in the salt air, beach chairs and umbrellas can be rented for a small fee, just in case you forgot yours we have you covered!
The free fun continues with the Atlantic City Airshow. Each August, this spectacle takes place and features flybys and acrobatics by civilian pilots and military professional. All the action takes place in the sky above Atlantic City’s beach and coastline. The best part of the show is the $0 ticket price. Day 1 Morning: Learn Something Important And Be Amazed!
Start your day amid the pathways, plants, flowers and Gingko trees of the Civil Rights Garden. This amazing garden features 11 granite columns and sculptures with inscriptions related to the history, events and people of the Civil Rights movement. Located on the Boardwalk across from the Civil Rights Garden by Brighton Park, the New Jersey Korean War Memorial features a thoughtful tribute to the men and women lost during the Korean War and the dedicated service they provided. During the summer season, take a free tour of New Jersey’s first commercial wind farm, located on Route 30 in Atlantic City. No appointment is necessary to tour. Historic Boardwalk Hall located on Mississippi Avenue and the Boardwalk houses the largest musical instrument on earth. More powerful than a dozen orchestras, it can both whisper and thunder into the 5.5 million cubic feet of air space in the main arena. A second instrument by W. W. Kimball is also part of the Adrian Phillips Ballroom. Both of these incredible machines were included as part of the original stage equipment for the building and can be seen and heard in operation every weekday for 1/2 hour concerts and tours May-October at noon as well as played for several events including silent films and the Miss America Pageant.
Afternoon: Go Cultural
End your stay in Atlantic City with a little culture. The Atlantic City Museum and the African American Heritage musuem located at The Arts Garage, features a look at the history of our City by the sea, both are free to the public. Atlantic City has the oldest working pipe organ in the world, located inside historic Boardwalk Hall, free concerts and tours of the Midmer-Losh are given every day at noon, it’s a piece of history you won’t want to miss! After the tour stop by our Boardwalk Information Center for your free AC magnet, just a small memento to remember your visit.
Evening: A Food Lovers Paradise
You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg when you go out to lunch or dinner in Atlantic City. There is a restaurant for every taste and budget, from the family-friendly chains we all know and love to the Boardwalk food lining the great wooden way featuring easy-on-the-wallet favorites like pizza, corn dogs, funnel cake, and gyros or if you fancy a taste of a local’s favorite we can guide you to a foodie’s paradise! Finish off your evening with the lightshow at Tropicana Casino Hotel. This free 3D display on the building’s façade features a combined effect of video, lighting and sound that will keep you spellbound at the spectacle it creates. Ig f you happen to be visiting on a Saturday, Tropicana sets off an amazing fireworks display at 10pm.
Day 2 Legendary Boardwalk
Stroll the old wooden way and enjoy your favorite Boardwalk foods from funnel cake to corn dogs, you will find the entrances to Central Pier, Steel Pier and Garden Pier scattered along more than four miles of Boardwalk. A seemingly endless array of restaurants, retail shops, casinos and unique attractions make it impossible to be bored on the Boardwalk. From a yearly marathon, triathlons, surfing and volleyball competitions to the one-and-only Miss America Parade, the Boardwalk will have everyone yelling more than “Show us your shoes!”
But occasionally the weather has a different plan. When walking the boards is not the best option, you can always step inside your favorite casino, which all feature many options to keep you entertained. Or perhaps you’ll be fortunate enough to catch a matinee at the IMAX Theater at The Quarter at Tropicana, which can transport you to another place and time for the afternoon. Featuring large format films in both 2D and 3D, IMAX Theater features the latest Hollywood blockbusters and you can even plan your own private party for your family and friends. For the more adventurous, Chickie & Petes on the Boardwalk at Tropicana features a two story bar and restaurant with a game room stocked with the latest in games for all age levels.
Day 2 Evening: Celebrity Dining or Local Favorites?
After a fun-filled day of Atlantic City adventures, dinner is probably on your mind. As food reality TV shows pop up, you’re probably hungry for more than just great food. Luckily, several of today’s hottest celebrity chefs and reality TV stars have opened up trendy restaurants in Atlantic City. From Bobby Flay, Wolfgang Puck, Guy Fieri and Gordon Ramsay, finding a famous name in Atlantic City is not a problem. Locals love to eat and it’s not surprising that the favorites are tucked away with a breakfast favorite, Gilchrist in Gardener’s Basin with a view of the Back Bay and fishing fleets as they leave for the day, Atlantic City Bar and Grill with all you can eat seafood and Kelsey’s AC best Southern BBQ ever! Narrowing the list down for your first dinner in town may be a little trickier then you thought.
