Outdoor adventure runs deep in the Rio Chama River Canyon with New Mexico River Adventures, a world-class action sports guide and outfitter located in the Santa Fe/Taos area.

In the high desert of northern New Mexico along The Rio Chama River, a major tributary of the Rio Grande, groups can have their pick of action-packed, outdoor experiences. New Mexico River Adventures outfits and guides groups on a variety of half to multi-day trips from Class IV whitewater rafting to rock climbing and fly-fishing to scenic tours by horseback or 4×4.

“We’re right across the street from one of the longest, most beautiful river systems in the country and we have become a destination vacation for many,” said Matt Gontram, owner of New Mexico River Adventures. “In the heart of in the southern Rockies, we run anywhere from half or full-day trips, all the way to week-long, multi-sport trips down the most famous river in New Mexico.”

One of the most popular routes, the Taos Box Full Day trip, floats underneath the Rio Grande Gorge bridge through a sheer, 800-foot sandstone box canyon and over whitewater rapids that increase in intensity along the way.

But on all trips, groups have the chance to see an amazing mix of wildlife, including eagles perched on spruce and pine, river otters on the shoreline and bighorn sheep grazing on the mountain peaks.

New Mexico River Adventures is also the only rafting and guiding company in the state that offers a full-service facility with changing and restrooms, a gear and equipment shop, and an outdoor patio for groups to gather before or after their trip.

Groups should call well in advance to book a guided trip. New Mexico River Adventures staff can also work with groups to curate a trip for specific lengths, interests or needs.
