Calling all history buffs! There is so much deep history in Vicksburg that stems from the early 1700s. From the Old Depot Museum’s historical exhibits on the Siege of Vicksburg to the Biedenharn Coca-Cola Museum’s displays on the beloved soft drink, there is something for everyone. Tour Vicksburg National Military Park to see the site of the American Civil War Battle of Vicksburg, or embark on a walking tour along a Vicksburg Heritage Walking Trail to see some of the 35 historical markers in the downtown and historic districts.
EXPERIENCE
Plan a visit to one of Vicksburg’s many casinos, including Ameristar Casino, Lady Luck Casino, Riverwalk Casino, and Waterview Casino. Besides gaming attractions, area casinos also feature a number of eateries, as well as lodging options. Stop by the cool little roadside stop The Tomato Place for a tomato sandwich—you’ll be glad you did.
TOUR
Eleven tour homes line the streets of Vicksburg. You can visit the oldest home in the city, the McRaven Tour Home, which was built circa 1797. While you’re at it, you can take in Vicksburg’s thriving arts and culture scene. Visit the Vicksburg Riverfront Murals painted on the floodwall of Levee Street, depicting the story of Vicksburg’s history. Art galleries, like The Attic Gallery and H.C. Porter Gallery, give you even more opportunities to view true Southern art.
