HISTORY
The city of Cheyenne conjures images of cowboys and rugged nature in the “Wild West,” and groups looking to Cheyenne as their destination should be excited to get their boots dirty. Groups can charter a Cheyenne Street Railway Trolley for a fun way to learn about historic downtown Cheyenne. The 90-minute “Wild West History Tours” are guided by the trolley driver, who will take groups back in time to learn about cowboys and gunfights, as well as tales of the days of yore.
DINE
Groups looking for the true cowboy experience should book the Dirty Dan McGee Steak Fry at the Terry Bison Ranch. The ranch is situated on 27,500 acres across the Wyoming-Colorado border. Hop on the ranch’s custom-built train for a tour of all the ranch has to offer, including bison, camels, ostriches, and other farm animals. Then, settle in for a steak dinner with all the fixings at one of the ranch’s five dining venues.
CULTURE
Scattered throughout the city are more than 30 cowboy boot statues, each standing 8 feet tall. Groups with some extra time can learn more about these works of art through the “Boots are Made for Talking” cell phone audio tour. Painted by local artists, these boots tell the history of Cheyenne and Wyoming. Artist narratives are available at 18 of the boots by calling 307-316-0067 and entering the boot number.
DANCE
If your boots aren’t broken in by now, the Bunkhouse Band plays live music on Friday and Saturday nights at the Bunkhouse Bar and Grill, so toss back a couple of beers or sweet teas and head out on the dance floor. Once all that dancing has made everyone hungry, settle in for dinner—from Rocky Mountain oysters to prime rib to country-fried steak, Bunkhouse knows comfort food.
