Located on the southern coast of Maine, Portland is a historic waterfront city with many activities for groups to enjoy. Take a scenic cruise offered by Casco Bay Lines to nearby islands such as Peaks Island and Cliff Island, which can be accessed year-round. Just a 20-minute drive north of Portland, Freeport is a world-class shopping destination and home to Freeport Outlets, a massive retail center with brand-name stores and boutiques. Legendary outdoor retailer L.L. Bean was founded in Freeport in 1912 and offers shoppers an immersive experience at its 220,000-square-foot flagship campus, which is part of Freeport Outlets and is open 24 hours a day.

Take a step back in time by visiting Victoria Mansion, a former residence that is considered one of the best examples of the Italian Villa style in the country; Portland Museum of Art, which displays contemporary art and local work; and The Museum at Portland Head Light, located in the former keeper’s quarters of a historic lighthouse with unique artifacts on display and a gift shop.


EAT & DRINK

Portland has an array of eateries that serve the freshest catches of the day, including Portland Lobster Co., The Highroller Lobster Co., and DiMillo’s On the Water, a historic floating restaurant with views of the Portland harbor. Greater Portland is home to the highest rate of craft breweries per capita in the country, including family-owned Rising Tide Brewing Co., which specializes in small batch ales, and Shipyard Brewing, one of the state’s original breweries that offers group tours.
