ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Tampa Bay Watch officially announced the opening of the Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center located at St. Pete Pier — St. Petersburg’s new waterfront attraction that includes dining and outdoor recreation.
As the only marine environmental and educational experience in downtown St. Petersburg, the Discovery Center features floor-to-ceiling glass walls, an outdoor wet classroom, hands-on interactive displays and docent-led tours. In addition, the Discovery Center soon plans to offer an eco-tour boat and floating classroom.
“We are excited to bring our mission to the public in such an incredible location and to inspire visitors to become more aware and engaged stewards of their own environment,” said Dwayne Virgint, executive director at the Discovery Center.
The mission of the Discovery Center is to tell the story of the Tampa Bay ecosystem, while also highlighting Tampa Bay Watch’s efforts to recover it. Tampa Bay Watch, a nonprofit, was incorporated in 1993 and performs habitat restoration and protection projects.
